"People in the entertainment business to illicit substances are introduced so early in life," says Stephen Della Valle, author of the book new Rising Above the Influence and Chairman of the Board of Directors in rehabilitation center of turning point."Before we make, drinking and drug use becomes a way of life And if they aren't careful, they end up in one of three places: rehabilitation, prison or a coffin."
Hollywood is no stranger to substance abuse. But with today's multimedia control level, thanks to paparazzi and Internet, the subject is always more attention than ever.These days, it is usual to see stars also minors get busted for DUI and spend a day or two in jail, or a week in a rehabilitation facility.
"It is sad that many of them never get the chance to live a life that is clean," says Mr. Valley. "Many stars are given access to drugs and alcohol at a young age, and it is hard to break those habits, once I started-particularly when working in an industry with such pressure and so little real responsibility. "
Young celebrities have fought long dependencies in Tinseltown. some of the most famous cases include:
? Drew Barrymore-started drinking at nine, used marijuana and cocaine to ten to twelve years; was in rehab from thirteen
? Lindsay Lohan-entered rehabilitation Cirque Lodge just after turning twenty-one
? River Phoenix-died of a drug overdose outside a nightclub, at the age of twenty-three
? Brad Renfro-fought a heroin addiction that recently the killed at the age of twenty-five
Mr. Della Valle is no stranger to this phenomenon, having picked up his first drink at age 12. spent over twenty years as an addict and alcoholic before finally committing himself to a recovery program and to turn his life around.
"Everyone has their ' bottom," says, "its point where they look to their lives and thinking, things can't get any worse ... it is sad that so many people in Hollywood hit that Fund so young."
