I am continually amazed by the level of the cult of celebrity that we here in the US I don't pay that much attention to what happens with Paris Hilton, or any other celebrities for that matter, but last month that you would like to be completely turned off by the media not to know that MS Hilton was having a little problem in his life called "go to jail." Last night I briefly on the tube and found myself watching its release triumphant as you and your vehicle to escape were swarmed by paparazzi photographers.
Because we have such an obsession with celebrity culture? And why are we even more intrigued when something bad happens to them? For example: because it was more important in the eyes of the media of his life tragic death of Anna Nicole Smith, and why did people pay any attention? And even if you do not try to follow all the information about celebrities in the media, yet are faced with the magazines titles to the cashier at the store.I can be close to completely illiterate Hollywood, so not sure why Lindsay Lohan is a celebrity-but from watching the covers of magazines standing in the grocery line, I know that you have alcohol problems and disorders. seems strange that actually I know that.
Some experts suggest that the root of this mass obsession with celebrity is programmed in our DNA.Stuart Fischoff, Ph. d., Professor Emeritus of media psychology at University of California, Los Angeles, says that "what is in our DNA, as a social animal, is interest in watching alpha males and females; those that are important for the pack", and that we are set up to follow the leader. " (See To New Age cult of Celebrity, CBS News 3/3/06.)But who would classify most of these celebrities, especially those that seem to garner the most attention, as leaders? What in the world are leaders?
Another psychologist mentioned in that article, Abby Aronowitz, Ph. d., says that the media is at least partly to blame for the creation of people who are extreme celebrity worshippers."Whole Hollywood spin the machine works together to create images that are impossible for any of us until They purposely set live. us to admire and even wish something not that we ever have. ... There have been made to transform the fans in victims and all you begin by creating the frenzy known as the cult of celebrity. "
For me, both DNA and explanations of blame-the-media reek of thought victim mentality. We can't help it, is in our DNA. Or, I mean we did do.Sure, we could be genetically programmed to follow the pack leader, but again wonder-why would our culture deem a celebrity to be a leader? And means of communication, which seems to be a matter of chicken-and-the-egg. which came first, media coverage of celebrities or our societal research for more information about well known?
I think a much better explanation for our fascination with celebrity's life comes from a psychological approach more spiritual. Many people have a need deep, subconscious, unfinished, in their lives-a need to feel better about themselves, a need somehow to feel superior and celebrities help you respond to this need.
Eckhart Tolle points to this idea in his book A new earth when he says, "the absurd overvaluation of Fame is just one of many demonstrations of madness egoic in our world".
Ego unconscious people thrives on feeling superior. As cult of celebrity can feel superior?
* When celebrities and their PR machines are at their best, celebrities look better the rest of us, they sound better than the rest of us, and we believe that live your life so much glamour and satisfied that the rest of us. Only by knowing about them, we can try to imitate them and feel like we're too the superior man. For example: when I watched MS Hilton leaving prison yesterday evening, I learned that now that she is free from his cell, you will be working very hard on her new perfume launch. Maybe if I buy its perfume, I can smell like Paris Hilton and will be a person much better than the rest of you poor slobs out there. My ego is thrilled with possibilities!
* When we want to follow closely the celebrities, then we can feel superior to have more information of our friends and neighbors. Our ego feels satisfied and superior when we have more knowledge of something next guy-even if that knowledge is practically useless.
* We can also inflate our ego by choosing celebrity apart. Are again always curious about the uproar over the awards of Hollywood as the Oscars. why people spend hours watching the parade of celebrities in their seats, receive small statues and then make thank-you speeches uninspired?Might be because our ego gets satisfaction out of know how celebrities looked and criticize the clothing choices, together we don't like to know who scored the prize (information)? You can take a hint of my higher sense of ego when I suggest that make thank-you speeches uninspired?I mean really, I could do a better job of what they do!
* Finally, we can feel superior when we watch celebrities fall from grace. With all they have-all their opportunities, all their wealth and beauty-many celebrities just can't seem to get their lives together. ego And our love to watch them fall apart because our life so that it looks much better, much more in control.
In a society where there seem to be increasingly disconnected from our true inner spirit and increasingly impressed by conquests in the outside world, the place of worship of celebrities full sense. until people begin to live more consciously and actually being discussed because they feel the need to will idolize celebrity images, media will continue to help us meet our ego by giving us all the good, the bad and the ugly that it can find for the rich and famous. And we will continue to suck like sponges dry we became spiritually.
